Microfoil Reflective Foil InsulationMicroFoil rolled reflective insulation is a 1/4" thick, it is lightweight and flexible, 97% Radiant and 99.995% Vapor Barrier. MicroFoil has a patented 1" self-taping foil flange running down one edge (48" and 72" widths only) with an additional 1" flange running down the opposite edge the entire length (16" and 24" rolls have staple flanges on both sidesfor inside joist/wall cavities). Microfoil is the#1 Reflective foil insulation to use under metal roofs, in attics, walls, and with radiant infloor heating systems. MicroFoil is a clean, non-toxic, easy to install, self-taping radiant and vapor barrier that provides increased comfort, energy efficiency, and savings. MicroFoil ™ effectively reflects a heat source as opposed to absorbing and dissipating it as fiber glass insulations do. This reflectivity works both ways: radiating summer heat outward and retaining winter heat inside. Radiant Barriers do not have an R value since the R-value for reflectivity cannot be measured. However, radiant barriers can be tested as part of an assembly where the R-value can be observed and measured. In this case, the R-value can be achieved when the radiant insulation is installed as tested. R-values cannot be estimated based upon different installation methods. Technical DataPhysical Properties
Available with foil / foil or foil white / foil both offered with scrim face reinforcment for exposed areas.
Weight - .86 ounce per sq. ft R value is a measure of thermal performance, the higher the R value the greater the insulating value. Independent testing by US Testing Laboratories When installed correctly, MicroFoil™ provides an excellent thermal and vapor barrier, greatly reducing condensation buildup.
To get the marked R-value, it is essential that this insulation be installed properly.
Barrier Install Instructions and technial data
![]() Recommended Installation InstructionsThe Barrier™ material is the easiest and LEAST labor intense under concrete material to install in underground applications on the market today. Just follow these simple steps and find out why installers rate this material “Easiest to Work With”.
Material: 3/8" thick extruded expanded polystyrene foam, 4'x 60' rolls. Test Method(s)The industry standard Thermal Conductivity Resistance test method using ASTM Standard C-518 - "Standard Test Method for Steady-State Heat Flux Measurements and Thermal Transmission Properties by Means of the Heat Flow Meter Apparatus" was used for testing. The Barrier was also tested as part of an 8" concrete assembly to create a realistic installation setting. In this test case, the assembly with Barrier has an R value of 4 and with the Barrier XT -an R value of 5.7. Water / Vapor Permeability ValuesThe industry standard Water Permeability Test Method (ICBO Sections 4.6.1 & 4.6.2) and Water Vapor Permeability Test Method (Procedure B of ASTM E96) were used for moisture transfer testing.
Additional Comments by testing facility: "This product meets or exceeds the ICBO conditions for acceptance. At the end of 24 hours, there was NO indication that any water had dripped from the underside of the specimens. In fact, a 3.5" head of water (rather than the required 2.0" head for 24 hours) was employed, with the same results after a period of 96 hours". ALL TESTING HAS BEEN PERFORMED BY A CERTIFIED TESTING LABORATORY: GEOSCIENCE LTD. - Laboratory Testing Division. Note: These typical property values are intended as guidelines only, and not as specification limits. R-Value means resistance to heat flow, the higher the R-Value, the greater the insulating power. |
